Ooooh brrrr, I know. We had 4" yesterday morning. Very late for so much around here. The mountains received over a foot in 24 hours.
Locogringo had some threads and some great links on rental cars. I think ours was $550 for two weeks. We've had good luck with Thrify. It's right at the airport. _________________ Kathy (and Mark) #5 Calle Jamaica, Manzana 201

| Clay, I rented with Cancun rent a car. Also known as International, and at least 1 other name as well. It DID come with insurance. I booked online - all it asked me was how I would be paying. I got a confirmation 1 day before I left. All very professional I thought. A guy also met me right at the airport with a sign w/my name on it. 5 minute drive to the rental shop. I brought down my "mexico" credit card - it only has a $500 limit. The agency was trying to 'reserve' $550 on it which wasn't working. I told him to try $450 which was fine. THEN he tried to put the BALANCE ($252) on the card... Well needless to say that didn't work... They drove me to the ATM and I withdrew the 2500 pesos and was on my way. Returning the car was simple too, just make sure you spend the time WHEN PICKING UP THE CAR, to go over it really well with the agent. Mark EVERYTHING down that you see. I had no problems, but the fellows did seem to have a lengthy discussion in Spanish about some damage that had already been there. I was assertive even before he could even try to suggest that I was responsibel. Ok... I'm rambling now. Yup - $252 is cheap, and included insurance. Nolan |

| Oh yeah. Most of the Locogringo posts I've read recommend EITHER Cancun / INternational rent a car, or EASYWAY rentacar. |

| I generally take a private transfer to Akumal and then rent a car there from Carrib. rent a car which I have reserved on-line.
Yes, this an expensive way to go, however I do not want to drive when I am tired from a flight and would rather be chatting it up with a driver with a cold beer in my hand.
I have also rented from Hertz in Tulum.

| | I could not access International car rental, it kept saying bandwidth exceeded. In all my years of going to Cancun, I have NEVER seen car rental with insurance for under 15.00 dollars a day. To me, this looks impossible. was this recently? Are you sure that included insurance?? If so, what type? Liability, collision or both. What deductable? When I rent, I always go with Easyway, 12 to 15 dollars a day for the car, plus liability. I then use my Visa card free insurance for the collision, 0 deductable. I have a feeling they told you it had insurance, but it did not. |

Dave-
Check that Visa policy carefully......there are some countries not covered and I think MX is one of them.
I could be wrong, but better safe than sorry, IMHO!
